Feast of Sto. Niño de Tondo 2011

As the whole country focuses its attention to the Queen City of the South , Cebu, as they celebrate there the Sinulog Festival in respect to the little Jesus – Sto. Niño – here in Metro Manila, we, the people from Tondo, Manila, also give praise and thanks to our little patron who’s been so good to us all these year.

Yes, look here as I share to all of you the Feast of Sto. Niño de Tondo!

Just like in Cebu, every third Sunday of January, people from Manila gather at Sto. Niño de Tondo Parish to celebrate and give thanks for all the blessings and miracles that the little Jesus has given to us. On the streets of Tondo, you’ll see dances and praises of different local bands chanting “Viva, Viva, Sto. Niño!”

In this festivity, you’ll see Niños wearing the ordinary shiny and shimmering clothes that they usually wear. There are also some who dresses elegantly, some who dresses like a real young boy, then, some who dresses like workers – probably just like the job of their owners.

It is thing that I love about this festival here in Tondo, the unique costumes that the Niños have, it’s like Fashion Week all over again!

The façade of the church was decorated with red and yellow flags, while the altar was lavishly decorated with flowers bearing the same colors of the flags – a must see every year!

Another reason, I guess, why everyone should visit Sto. Niño de Tondo Parish is probably the funny and very informative homile of Father Eric Santos. Oh, yeah, he's the priest-friend of Miss Ai-ai delas Alas. ^_^ He is one cool priest!

Father Eric, if you ever read this, you rock! ^_^
I think I'll never forget that "Return to Sender" joke. Hahahaha!

Around 5 in the afternoon, more and more Sto. Niños floods the church as everyone prepares and participate to the procession which will be lead by on of the Sto. Niños replicas of the church.

The procession usually last for hours as different families and baranggays bring out their Sto.Niños and chant along the Viva Sto.Niño craze.

Believe me, it was one loud party that you’ll enjoy! Young and adult, rich and poor, all in one shouting “Viva, Viva, Sto. Niño!”

Happy Fiesta, Tondo!
